How do you rate your air filters?

Our ratings are based on the MERV designations.  MERV, Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, is a rating of the effectiveness of air filters in removing particle contaminants from the air and is dependent upon the particle size.  The higher the rating, the better the protection for the equipment and the occupants.

Our unique 5-Star system greatly simplifies the process of selecting a quality filter.

  • 1 Star Filter - MERV 1: Our 1 Star Service provides you with a basic air filter which is intended to protect your equipment but provides little assistance in filtering the air that is circulated in your home.
    .
  • 3 Star FilterMERV 8: Our 3 Star Services provides you with a quality filter which significantly decreases the amount of dust, molds and allergens released into your home.  This is a substantial upgrade from our 1 Star Filter.  The filter fabric, frame and expanded metal backing are all made from 100% recycled materials and are given a MERV 8 rating.  Recycled synthetic fibers do not promote mold growth.
    .
  • 5 Star Filter - MERV 11+: Our 5 Star Service provides you with our highest quality filter which surpasses standards and cleans the air in your home.  5 Star filters remove mold and allergens as well as dust mites and suspended particles as small as .03 microns!  Our best quality filter.  Rated MERV 11, our Five star filter is a significant upgrade from the 3 Star or "standard capacity" pleated filter.  Mechanically and electostatically enhanced fibers are woven into the fabric to enhance airflow and to provide high dust holding capacity with very low airflow resistance.

How do I determine the correct size of my air filter?

There are so many shapes and sizes to choose from, how do I know what I need for my home?

Unfortunately, there isn't a universal type or size of filter.  While there are many common sizes, often times, the size of your air filter is determined by the installers and are not determined by the brand of furnace or air conditioner installed in your home.  The only reliable way to know the size of filter you need is to physically remove and measure your filter.

Step 1: Locate Existing Filter (See "Changing your Air Filter" for more specific instructions)
Your furnace is typically located in the garage or sometimes installed in a central area close to water heater.

Step 2: Remove Filter

Step 3: Measure Filter

Note: Physical size of filter vs. Nominal size.  Expect about a 1/2 Inch difference in actual size.

Can I simply Clean my air filter?

I've heard I can just clean my air filter, is this true?

One look at your old air filter and you'll understand.  Air Filters are specially designed to absorb and trap undesirable air-borne contaminants.  Even if you were able to clean dust off of the surface of the filter, there is far more trapped inside the filter itself.  By design, air filters are not intended to be reused.
